League Wizard
You can use this page to calculate the number of matches and time required for a tournament.  All teams play in pools or "round robin" leagues - everyone in a pool plays everyone else the same number of times. Teams go through to a knockout competition based on the results in their pools.

League Phase

Smaller pool sizes mean shorter competitions - for one day tournaments, 4 or 5 per pool is ideal

Knockout phase
